Back of House with Heather Kirchner

Get acquainted with the human-side of FoodStorm as we sit down for monthly interviews with the people who power our business.

Heather Kirchner, VP of US Sales, spends her days leading our US growth, fostering relationships with our clients and spreading the good word about FoodStorm to potential customers. A major part of her role is learning how we can help businesses boost operational efficiency and performance while growing their bottom lines with the power of FoodStorm behind them.

1) What do you enjoy most about working at FoodStorm?

Our incredibly talented team! There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not impressed by the work that they do...whether it’s a new functionality upgrade to our system (sometimes released within days), signing a new client, expanding our PR/marketing reach... Everyone is always out to do their best and it’s super inspiring. On top of that, our team has a great sense of humor and that always makes things fun!

Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention our software offering because it truly is the best on the market. There is no better feeling than being on a demo and getting an audible “wow!” or “no way!” when a prospect sees what we have to offer. It makes our job in sales that much more rewarding!

2) Where do you see the catering industry and catering technology going in the future?

2020 was a hard year for everyone, but in the catering industry it proved that strong technology is essential to running a catering business. I was amazed by the agility of our customers who pivoted to pop up new menus online for customer ordering. During a time where people were getting tired of cooking for their families, but also couldn’t go out to eat, having that online ordering option for their customers kept their businesses alive during such a trying and unknown time.

What’s also interesting is that during the shutdowns we had so many new businesses reaching out saying they’ve been unhappy with their catering software for years, but have never had the time to make a switch because they were too busy with catering and events. COVID allowed these businesses to take a step back, assess the options out in the market and make the switch they needed to take their catering offering to the next level.

I envision that as restrictions continue to lift, the catering industry is going to be booming and people are going to want to celebrate! Having a strong solution in place that is constantly releasing new updates and can be managed and changed on the fly to support your business as it grows is going to be huge. Those that already have something powerful (like FoodStorm 😉) in place are going to be ahead of the game!

3) Tell us about your background that led to you joining the FoodStorm team:

I’ve spent nearly all of my career in business development and sales in the SaaS world. In my role prior to FoodStorm I worked with our CEO, Rob, and was a part of his team responsible for growing US Sales for an Aussie-based SaaS business.

When I learned that FoodStorm was looking to expand to the US and that Rob would be fearlessly leading the charge from Australia, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a part of it! Rob is a tremendous leader and one of the most intelligent people I know, which lends itself to high performing teams and great success wherever he goes. I am grateful for the opportunity to have a real impact on our US growth and get our awesome software in the hands of US businesses!

4) What are the values that drive you?

I am a firm believer in doing the right thing, always. Be it in business or personal life, having integrity and doing the right thing when no one is watching will always repay itself ten times over.

5) How would you describe FoodStorm in 1 word?

Mighty 🦸

6) In another life, I’m pretty sure I was...

A sommelier that lived in Italy, either off the Amalfi Coast or in Florence. There is something about Italy that makes me feel so alive and happy!

7) Cat-person or dog-person?

Dog 🐶 We’ve got a 5 year old golden retriever named Belle.

8) If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be?

The ability to be in two places at once.

9) What’s your favorite way to spend time off?

Being outside! We’re about to head into warmer weather in St. Louis and I cannot wait for our weekends to be spent hopping around to parks, backyard BBQs, outdoor concerts and food truck festivals.

10) What are you currently playing, reading, watching or listening to? (i.e. videogame, book, tv series, podcast)

Lately I’ve been reading lots of parenting books...boring I know! We have a 1.5 year old and I’m learning LOTS when it comes to toddlers having minds of their own. I gave my parents a run for their money growing up, so I’m just trying to prepare for the repayment I have coming my way 😁.
